Alpha Centauri is Here!
It's been a year since the previous alpha version released, alpha-2.9, and that only contained minor things; the alpha version before that, alpha-2.8, was released over 3 years ago. I haven't developed the beta as much, so I decided to continue expanding upon alpha to be supplementary until beta officially releases.
So, what's new?
Texture Changes!
Many textures have been changed and added, like these metals above; they can come in various shapes, and have 3 colors. There have also been texture additions and changes to various blocks, UI elements, entities, and other objects.
Equipment!
Now you'll be able to find and craft various pieces of equipment throughout your world, which will enhance your stats and may even come with special effects! Here's a basic rundown of the various types:
Armor and Shields
The most basic equipment is armor and shields. You can craft these using any metal; some metals will craft into armor, others will craft into shields. Shields have less defense but require less metal to craft; armor requires more metal but provides more defense. The stronger the metal, the more defense you'll have!
Trinkets
Trinkets can appear as various objects, and can either be common or rare. Common trinkets have a 1/10 chance of being dropped by any enemy, while rare trinkets can only be found in dungeons. Trinkets of any kind buff your stats, but rare trinkets generally have better stats than common ones. Stats that can be buffed by trinkets include:
- Defense
- Jump Strength
- Wall Jump Strength
- Speed
- Max HP
- Attack Speed
- Range
Rare trinkets can also come with various special effects, so be on the lookout for them!
World Generation!
World generation has expanded! There's now a 50% chance your world generates like this, with giant chasms and pillars.
Additionally, each world now generates with one dungeon. Inside these sprawling strongholds, you'll be able to grab a variety of loot, including rare trinkets and the new Ancient Stalagmite item, which will let you duplicate blocks slowly! But be wary of new enemy types, they can be quite chaotic!
There's quite a few more features than what is shown here, but that'll be for you to explore.
Also, there are various features I planned to add, but haven't made it in yet. I'll be developing another version soon, so stay tuned! Various features I plan to add include:
- Boss Battles!
- Exploration of multiple planets!
- Expansion of trees, plants, and minerals!
- Local multiplayer!
- Roguelike mode, where you get to explore increasingly chaotic dungeons!
- Port to mobile devices!
- Walls and furniture!
- Planetary effects like weather and gravity!
- More types of dungeons, like underground roosts!
- More types of trinkets!
That'll be all for now, and for those in the US, happy Thanksgiving!
